Google Business Profile Set Up: 2026 Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step 1: Check if Your Business Already Exists

First, go to Google and search for your business. Many times, your business might already be listed — especially if you’ve been operating for some time. In that case, you just need to claim the business. For example, if you see your business listed, simply click “Claim this business” and go through the verification process

Step 2: Create a New Listing

If your business does not appear: Go to: business.google.com Sign in with a Google account. We recommended to use a business email, not your personal email. Click on “Start Now.”

Step 3: Enter Business Details

• Enter your business name

• Choose your business type

• Local store (physical shop)

• Service business (plumber, electrician, lawn care, etc.)

You can select more than one if applicable.

Step 4: Choose Business Category

Type your business category (e.g., lawn care service).

If your exact category doesn’t appear, choose the closest match.

Step 5: Set Service Area

Enter the locations where you serve customers.

** Important **

Don’t try to trick Google with unrealistic large areas. Be honest and accurate.

Add:

• Your city

• Nearby towns

• Actual service locations

This helps your business appear in relevant searches.

Step 6: Add Contact Details

Enter:

• Phone number

• Website

• Email (optional)

** Note:**

This information will be public. It’s highly recommended to add a website, as most customers click on it before contacting you.

Step 7: Add Business Location

Enter your business address (if applicable). If you don’t have a physical location, you can skip or adjust accordingly

Step 8: Verify Your Business

This is the most important step.

Google will verify your business in one of three ways:

  1. Phone verification (most common)
  2. Mail verification (takes 1–2 weeks)
  3. Video verification (proof of ownership) Examples of video proof:

• Unlocking your shop

• Showing your workspace or vehicle

** Step 9: Add Services**

List all services/products you offer.

Examples:

• Lawn care

• Landscaping

• Snow removal

• Weed control

Add as many relevant services as possible. This improves your visibility in search results. ** Step 10: Set Business Hours**

• Add opening/closing hours

OR

• Skip if not applicable (e.g., service-based businesses)

Step 11: Write Business Description

Describe:

• What you do

• Your experience . • What makes you different

• Services offered

You can write up to 750 characters. Tip: Write at least a few hundred characters for better impact.

Step 12: Add Photos Add: • Storefront image (or vehicle for service business) • Work photos 👉 Recommended: • At least 5–6 photos Photos help build trust and attract customers.

Step 13: Final Setup & Dashboard

Once done, your profile will be submitted for verification (may take up to 5 days). After that, you can manage everything from your dashboard:

Features:

• Respond to customer reviews

• Post updates

• Track performance

• Run ads

• Add services/products

• Enable bookings
